Video: Nats formally introduce Matt WilliamsPosted on November 01, 2013 by Andrew Bailey
On Friday, Matt Williams signed his contract to become the next field manager of the Nationals.
After inking his deal, Williams, flanked by general manager Mike Rizzo and with broadcaster Charlie Slowes on emcee duty, met the DC media for the first time.
Williams' presser was, in a word, impressive. He was clearly very excited to take over in Washington, came across as supremely passionate and aggressive, and laid out a few clear initiatives. He noted that the team is already in position to compete, but suggested his focus would be refinement. Specifically, Williams announced that his team would boast a defensive coordinator in 2013, just one of many references that made it very clear: there will be a strong impetus on defense.
"This is a great team that is on the brink of something very special. I think we can play a little bit smarter baseball." - Williams— Red Porch Report (@RedPorchReport) November 1, 2013
"He is probably the biggest part of this staff and getting to know the players moving forward for me." - Williams on bench coach Randy Knorr— Red Porch Report (@RedPorchReport) November 1, 2013
